Arabic calligraphy, known as “Al Khatt Al Arabi” in Arabic, is one of the most revered and intricate art forms in the Islamic world. It originated as a means to beautifully transcribe the Holy Quran and has since evolved into a powerful expression of spirituality, culture, and creativity. Over centuries, calligraphers refined their techniques to create mesmerizing scripts that capture the harmony of language and design.

Historical Significance

Arabic calligraphy dates back to the 7th century AD during the early days of Islam. The need to preserve the Quran in written form led to the development of artistic scripts. However, Arabic calligraphy took the form of “art that has rules and guidelines” in the 10th century AD where cursive form of Arabic calligraphy letters, different styles and proportion and structure of each letter in each style of calligraphy were established and developed. Early calligraphers focused on perfecting each letter's proportions, curves, and flow to honor the sacredness of the text.
